Predicated on the assumption that the Croydon Antarctic/Eclipse flight would be over the coastal region near Casey (appx longitude = 110E, 66.5S) prior to ascending to high altitude (appx. 40,000 ft.) for the eclipse run, I have looked at number of possible flight intercepts.

Table 1 gives the instantaneous circumstances of the 23 November 2003 total solar eclipse as viewed from an altitude of 40,000 ft. from an aircraft moving with a ground speed of 470 nM/hr on a heading to keep the Sun directly out the port (sun) side windows at mid-eclipse. This table also compares the static duration (i.e., what would be seen by a non-moving observer) to that achieved from such a moving platform.

The duration of the eclipse is maximized at ~ 22:49UT, with the Sun 15.2 degrees above the horizon. This would require flying appx. 1050 km (570 nM) over inland terrain to a longitude of appx. 72.7S to the point of mid-eclipse intercept. A small loss in the achievable duration of totality (3.6 seconds, or -2.6% of achievable) would be incurred by flying to a point on the coast, at a U.T. intercept of 22:40 U.T. which nearly minimizes the flying distance from Casey (~715km, or 390nM). It is instructive to look at a schematic map which illustrated this:
A "totality run" from eight minutes before and three minutes after mid-eclipse a 22:40 UT mid-eclipse intercept (at 40,000 ft. with the Sun orthogonal to the direction of flight at mid-eclipse) may be characterized by the table below which gives:
